Welcome to My Journey with Foods! Let me start by confessing that I am a good eater. I love food. These days, if I am not currently eating, then I am probably thinking about what I will be eating next. I am a picky eater, although I have been much more open in the past couple of years to trying new things. Sometimes that works out well and other times not so much.
I spent the first 28 years of life living in Georgia. I now reside in Wisconsin. Although I prefer the weather here, I sure miss southern food. Wisconsin needs improvement in several areas especially barbecue. Plus, the only Chick-fil-a in the state is in some rundown mall about 4 hours from here. I digress.
My idea of fun is going on food finds. I like food stores. I wonder around different stores and look at whats available, purchasing items optional. Usually I go grocery shopping with a list and a mission. Within the first 12 seconds, I am off my mission. It takes me a while to go grocery shopping, sometimes all day. There are just so many options out there. Going to just one store does not work. I hunt for bargains. I use coupons. I am not sucked into the lost leader scam that many stores use. I might buy the loss leader, but I refuse to pay the everyday prices in the more expensive stores. I currently live in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where I generally shop at Woodman's, Aldi, Festival Foods, Sam's Club, the Food Co-op, Wal-mart, Target, and Quillin's. I am also known to drive 70 miles to go to Trader Joe's in Rochester, MN, or drive 100 miles to Madison to shop at Costco and Whole Foods.
Food finding is great, but eating foods is more fun. Places that offer samples are great. I can make an entire meal just by walking around Sam's Club or Costco. I have only been enticed to buy something once from a sample. Some Members Mark Creme Brulee Almonds were just too tasty to avoid purchasing. Unfortunately, Sam's did not sell them last year.
Cooking is now my new passion. I can boil water with the best of them. Actually, I tend do more baking than anything else. I am trying to change that since the stuff I cook is generally healthier than the stuff I bake. I have a few months of experience working at a bakery, but other than that I learned through trial and error.
Enough about me for now. I created this blog so that I would have a place to share my journey with foods. Also, please forgive the numerous grammar and spelling errors you are likely to encounter. I welcome any feedback you have. Thanks for checking it out.
